You will also find concepts which serve to protect that dance from common mistakes which could degrade or even destroy this most exalted relationship, but which when addressed with forethought can equally lead to a truly blissful bond between The Master and the slave.

Micro-Rituals

A Micro-Ritual is any moment or act that, although seemingly innocuous and incredibly simple, nonetheless holds great power and passion for The Master and the slave. For example, typically many Doms and subs have a common Micro-Ritual regarding the placing of the collar around the submissive’s neck. For one Dom it may involve the submissive’s kneeling and presentation of the collar; for yet another there may be certain words spoken while the collar is being placed around the submissive’s neck; for yet another it may be a certain time of day or a certain precursor event that initiates the placement of the collar. All of these are the individualized Micro-Rituals of the Dom and sub. A successfully completed Micro-Ritual is always pleasing to The Master.

Micro-Rituals do not have to appear overt at all and they can still hold incredible power. The tradition of the slave writing with the lower case letter “i” is another common Micro-Ritual. The power of a Micro-Ritual comes in the repetition, and more than anything in the way the event, act, or moment – as tiny as it may be – serves to remind the submissive or slave of her role, of the context of what she is doing, and of whom she is doing it for, namely the Dom / Master.

For example, if a given Master and slave have the Micro-Ritual that the slave never wears panties when going out, or that the slave never uses a certain word – it does not matter what the word is – then every time the slave leaves the house without panties she KNOWS she is doing it for The Master. The tickled or titillated feeling the slave has is a direct result of the Micro-Ritual and the reminder of the uniqueness of the Master-slave Relationship. Each time the slave would ordinarily use that forbidden word, say the literal word “car” for example, the slave must pause and think of another way to say what she means, for example “automobile” or even the model of the car to which she is referring, e.g. The Honda. In doing so in those Few Extra Seconds of Thought she is again given the tiniest reminder that she is not in some mundane relationship but instead deeply immersed in the magical world of D/s.

A Dom and sub can have as many Micro-Rituals as the Dom wants and the sub can handle. Micro-Rituals serve a purpose either for etiquette and decorum, or towards the actual training and improvement of the slave. There really is no limit to what a Dom can turn into a Micro-Ritual.
